And I don't mean another Tercel.
My last four cars have been old Toyotas for various reasons that are not actually based on any kind of brand loyalty. I do not think that Toyota farts rainbows, and I have no personal interest in any modern Toyota product (although the 1st gen xB has been discussed with the wife once upon a time). I even sold the most reliable pickup (22R base) on the planet because it bored me and wouldn't die. Now I have three semi-running cars as divine punishment.
Without explaining four boring stories about why so many Toyotas, let me just skip ahead and say that I am financially stable, young, and currently without children. This is the PERFECT time to buy something impractical and wonderful. Something with MORE THAN FOUR CYLINDERS.
Here's my rough list... Sure to change as things progress.
BMW 8-series
I have still never, ever seen one of these in person. I think they look great and the idea of owning a 12-cylinder is oh so alluring... Hell, I'll take the V8. They range from very affordable to very absurd on the resale market... Not to be so conceited but I like the idea of making everyone's head turn.
Porsche 944
Every time I see one of these on the road I am filled with jealousy. They are handsome as hell. And I love those wheels. I also feel that I need to get in on this "Porsche experience" I keep hearing about all the time. Red, of course. Red red red.
Audi Allroad
Yes, I've read the Doug DeMuro article. When I first saw these new (when I was 13), I wanted one. And in spite of their reputation, I still see them on the road quite often, in fantabulous shape. I'd get the black on grey. For the record, if I end up getting rid of the Tercel wagons, this is going to jump to #1 on my list.

But wait... I still have some unfinished business with the Japanese...

I'd personally love an All Road (2.7T 6MT, oooohhhhh)
Personal project would probably to make it a single turbo 3.0L stroker and leave the stock suspension and exhaust in it and pull HARD on people haha.

YES. This is a great list. Have fun and spend money on stupid things before kids come into the mix haha
Just don't get an Allroad.

Even Allroad owners don't recommend the Allroad it seems... There was even that guy in the comments section who dropped the first one because it was such a pain and then ended up buying a second one... and then complained about that being a pain.

The biggest problem with them is the air suspension. It's junk. Horribly over engineered and way too prone to failure. My friend has had his replaced TWICE. There's gotta be a set of coilovers you can swap on instead of the air ride, but I'm not sure.
They are fun as shit though. I'll give it that. The TT really makes those things scoot.

Oh wait... Do those turbos fail, too?

Haven't heard of any turbo problems with them. My friend's has around 150K miles and the turbos have been fine and the engine still pulls hard.
They probably just need preventative maintenance and a check up every once in a while like lots of forced induction cars.

Huh, weird I've heard from Audi techs that they would never own a vehicle with that engine. Apparently turbo failures around 100k aren't uncommon. I personally don't have first-hand knowledge of this or have any Audi tech friends, but the few I've met have pretty much been in agreement on this.

I've heard from a few Audi techs around 100k is average, but I don't honestly know myself nor have I talked to many people about it.

well... from a "having fun driving" and "is the unreliability worth the joy of driving it" standpoints..... the BMW is years ahead of the others, IMO...

I love the way the 8-series looks, too.
Audi Allroad is plummeting down the rankings... More research and testimonials are just pushing me away.
